A friend and colleague asked me if I could take him, his two son’s and his dad fishing one day. I said, of course without hesitation. This was meant to be a father’s day trip for the three generations of boys.
I come to learn that his dad is getting up in age, wasn’t sure he’d ever go fishing again. At one point he told me “I gave most of my fishing stuff away”.
We had fun in some not so nice weather, the big pontoon made it easy for him to move around safely. We laughed, told stories and caught some fish. I wanted to say that it was a pleasure having these “boys” out with me for a full day of fishing. I didn’t fish much myself but was able to enjoy helping the youngsters, make sure things didn’t get unhinged and kept us in positive spirits.
In all, everyone made it onto the boat and everyone safely exited the boat. I’ll leave you with the funniest thing that happened during our day of fishing….I told everyone to turn their drags “off” and when my friend finally caught a fish the line on his spool was going and going and he kept reeling and reeling – nothing was happening except his spool was getting low. Finally after me and his dad stopped laughing we reminded him to tighten the drag. The excitement he had when the bite was on overpowered his memory to tighten the drag….it’s a fun little prank, no bananas please.
