Have you ever visited Lake Wallenpaupack and tried nearly everything on the list of things to do? How about we give you a brief rundown of some new things you might want to try during your next visit, the weekend getaway or just wanting to do something new. We’ve been watching a few new places pop up around Lake Wallenpaupack and figured it couldn’t hurt to share some of our own experiences and ideas for what you can try.
Let’s start with a little trip over to Tafton, PA where you can try The Wake Zone which touts indoor golf, a taproom that features many of Wallenpaupack Brewing Company’s finest beers, and a sports & arcade room. If we aren’t mistaken, you can plan on throwing darts, playing skee-ball and even having a little shootout in their old fashioned shooting gallery.
Next up on our little tour of what’s been going on around the lake is Soarin’ Eagle Rail Tours, which if the name isn’t cool enough… the fun and excitement of trying a railbike will get you! That’s right, a railbike – it’s like pedaling your bed or go-kart down the railroad tracks. They suggest bringing some water, sunscreen, snacks, insect repellent and a camera or smart phone. For children that aren’t big enough, it appears that you may want to bring a chest harness but I’d call for clarity. In addition, keep in mind that the hours of operation are from Memorial Day thru Halloween. My goodness, I hope they do a spooky Halloween tour as that would be amazing! This place is near operated out of the Hawley Train Station at 4 Columbus Ave, Hawley, PA.
While you are over by the Train Station we’ve been hearing a bunch of noise coming from the Jack’s LST – Crazy Country Club which uses the tagline of Warm Beer – Lousy Food, which we know isn’t a fair assessment, it’s more of a joke to intrigue future patrons. They are located at 215 Main Ave. Hawley, PA. From what we could gather, this place is all about atmosphere. Creating a fun, enjoyable experience for their customers.
If you keep heading in the direction of the Wallenpaupack Brewery located at 73 Welwood Ave, Hawley, PA there is a new place that was renovated over the COVID-19 break we all got to experience. The Paupack Watering Hole offers another place around the lake for food, drinks and decent seating arrangements. I’d say job well done, not only with the renovation but with the staff and food! As we say around all of our restaurants, please drive safely and responsibly after a day / evening out and about.
Keeping with the drinking theme for a second, I bet you had no idea that Hopping Eagle Brewing Company was located in the Hawley Silk Mill at 8 Silk Mill Dr, Hawley, PA. Currently open Thursday thru Sunday, check the site to see hours of operation but we’re hearing good things.
What about those hot summer days, when you just need something cool on the tip of your tongue? If you aren’t approaching the lake from the south side, you might not even know it’s there, but we’ve seen if with our own eyes. Yes, that’s right….a Yeti. Pocono Snow Yeti Water Ice is located at 1067 Main St. Newfoundland, PA. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but open around noon every other day and stay open until 8 or 9pm. If you head out towards Newfoundland, away from the lake you can’t miss it as they have a big giant YETI statue out front.
I don’t know where you guys and gals get your coffee but we were driving out past the Hideout on Route 590 and noticed a place that we hadn’t noticed before. Over in Honesdale, we saw the Black & Brass Coffee Roasting Co. but the new location caught us by surprise. Located right near the Hideout in Lake Ariel, is the Black & Brass Hideaway which saves those folks living on or visiting the south side of the lake a longer trip for a decent coffee. Let’s just say they have an entirely different approach to say, Dunkin.
Boat Service and storage, well if you recall there was a place over on 590 called New Wave in Recreation. It’s now New Wave Marine. It isn’t just a new name, it’s a entirely new family. That’s right, two amazing families have joined up to enhance service offerings, storage and quite possible sales. We have heard that they may be expanding storage capabilities in the fall and winter with a new building. We wish them luck as they grow and expand the business in the future. Full transparency, we have our boat serviced and stored here in the winter. We have something called the Captains Package and it’s been a wonderful experience for us given our busy schedule. They are located at 1446 Hamlin Highway, Lake Ariel, PA.
Over on this side of the lake, there is even more happening. Let’s take a look at a few more places. Here is a question, have you ever thrown an axe? Looking for something to do besides play golf, go out on the boat, watching a movie at home. Well, you could give your adrenaline a boost when you pick up a hatchet and give it a heave. Pocono Axe Works. I’ve thrown an axe here and there and it’s quite fun. I’ve even seen competitions popping up, professional leagues and local leagues. I’d call ahead to see if you are allowed to drink and throw, as some places allow it.
A little further down the road, right across from The Hideout and just before Drafts, is Lake Genero which offers Pavilion Rentals, Weddings and Glamping. This term “Glamping” popped up a number of years ago, I guess it’s a cross between Glamour and Camping – like Luxury camping with bells and whistles. This looks like another campground but we haven’t fully vetted it yet. If you are having no lucking finding space around the lake, you may want to check this place out.
Literally right outside Lake Genero, was a little (very little) what presents as almost like a roadside food stand — RIF’s Place. When I drove past, there were a least 20 people standing in line as if they were giving food away? The sign reads delivery and takeout but dining in is also a possibility. They have a robust menu with includes; Philly Cheese Steaks, Greek Gyros, Party Style Wings, Jamaican Beef Pattys, Sausage & Peppers and much more.
Hope you get to try a few of these things when you come to town, or if you are local go for it and let us
know what you think.
